Letter from then Minister Piet Adema

When determining the budget statements of the Ministry of LVVN for 2024, then Minister Piet Adema wrote a letter to the Chairman of the House of Representatives. In it, he informed about the importance of a resilient and sustainable production of animal feed. One of the highlights: diversifying animal feed raw materials by, for example, using residual flows from the food industry.

Resilient and sustainable animal feed production
Adema: ''One way to make this move is, for example, by using circular feed raw materials from Europe in the production of animal feed. These are, for example, residual flows from agriculture, the food industry and biofuel production. Valuable nutrients are converted into animal products in this way and by purchasing residual flows locally as much as possible, cycles are closed. In addition, it is important to continue to implement a sustainability drive in the production of animal feed. For example, the use of residual flows also contributes directly to reducing the CO2 footprint of animal feed.
