Producing food with respect for planetary boundaries and without torturing people or animals. Is that possible? Kipster tries to answer that question. At the end of 2017, they opened their first revolutionary chicken coop. Since then, it has been a madhouse. People come from all over the world to see how they farm.
At Kipster, everything has been considered in terms of sustainability: the welfare of the chickens, the impact of the barn on the environment, but also the farmer and the surroundings. One of the most important aspects: fully circular feed from Nijssen company.
The Kipster founders are happy to explain why: ''If we give the harvest of the land directly to people instead of animals, we need far fewer fields to feed the world population. What remains of food production, such as oat husks from the land or failed bakes from the bakery, we process into animal feed. Our chickens convert these residual flows into eggs and meat.''
By making feed from things that people can't or don't want to eat, Kipster has an extremely low carbon footprint. They see their chickens not only as food producers, but also as creatures that help us combat food waste.
